Call to Action for Domestic & Global Justice

by Tim Wednesday, Jun. 14, 2000 at 4:30 AM

Challenge the Democratic and Republican parties this summer in Philadelphia and Los Angeles! Now is the time to take action for domestic and global justice!

The Democratic and Republican parties will be convening this summer to select their leaders. These conventions will try to hide the fundamentally undemocratic political system controlled by corporate interests. Join us in taking nonviolent direct action to challenge the policies of the Democratic and Republican parties at their conventions this summer July 31-Aug 3 in Philadelphia and Aug 14-17 in Los Angeles.

It is no secret that both the Republicans and Democrats are in the pockets of multinational corporations. Rich corporations increasingly control our political system, the media, culture and the economy. A handful of powerful people in a handful of powerful nations continue to dominate both economically and militarily leaving the vast majority of the world impoverished and under the gun.

Both parties have been pushing a racist and sexist corporate agenda which benefits the few at the expense of the many and that is destroying hundreds of millions of lives worldwide and wrecking the planet. These policies that put profit over people are disproportionately impacting people of color and women.

At the same time, from Soweto to Seattle, from Delhi to D.C., people around the world have been standing up to demand a fairer world. We must say enough! No more business as usual! It is time for domestic and global justice! It is time to directly act to intervene and challenge the policies of both these dominant US political parties and their complicity with corporate interests.

We want real democracy that gives everyone meaningful power over the decisions and resources that matter in our neighborhoods, towns, schools and workplaces. We can and will create this real, direct democracy in our community organizations, town meetings, neighborhood groups, labor unions and other grassroots movements.

Join us! Nonviolent direct action has been an essential part of every successful social change movement in US history and is used by people all over the world to take back our power from corporations and governments. We will not wait for politicians to represent our interests. We are creating a better world! Democrats and Republicans, your party is over!
