The Shambhala Center presents The Buddha Walks Into a Bar and Slow Dating with Author and Buddhist practitioner Lodro Rinzler

For those striving to deepen their social interactions beyond the digital realms of Twitter and Facebook, The Shambhala Meditation Center of Los Angeles will present The Buddha Walks into a Bar: Love Sex and Compassion, and Slow Dating: A Workshop on Manifesting Basic Goodness, two workshops with Lodro Rinzler, author of The Buddha Walks into a Bar: A Guide to Life for a New Generation. The workshops will be held at the Santa Monica Zen Center on Sunday, March 11th.

The Buddha Walks into a Bar is Lodro Rinzler's introduction to Buddhism for anyone who wants to ride the waves of life with mindfulness and compassion. Join the 28 year old author, teacher Shambhala Buddhist practitioner for a discussion on how to apply various forms of compassion to long-term relationships, dating, and even sex life.

The Buddha Walks into a Bar: A Guide to Life for a New Generation is a book for those who are spiritual but not religious, who are disillusioned by the state of the world, who are sick of their jobs, who like drinking beer and having sex and hate being preached at. This is Buddhism presented to a generation leaving the safe growth spurts of college and entering a turbulent and uncertain work force.

Slow Dating: A Workshop on Manifesting Basic Goodness is the reverse idea of the speed dating experience. Attendees will be introduced to meditation, and offered practical and down-to-earth teachings, rooted in Buddhist philosophy, on how to connect with their own basic wisdom and confidence while looking for love. Whether checking out the bar scene or hitting up match.com, this workshop is a training in how to be fully present with yourself, your own expectations, and romantic interests. While this event is specifically about dating, people from all relationship backgrounds are welcome, as at the heart of our shared experience is the idea that we all can learn to slow down and appreciate everyone we meet, both in the dating world and the rest of life.

Lodro Rinzler is a teacher in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage and the author of The Buddha Walks into a Bar: A Guide to Life for a New Generation. Over the last decade he has taught numerous workshops at meditation centers and college campuses throughout North America. Lodro's column, What Would Sid Do, appears regularly on the Huffington Post and he is frequently featured in the Interdependence Project, Shambhala Sun, Buddhadharma, and Good Men Project

The workshops will be held on Sunday, March 11th at 1453 14th St.#C, Santa Monica, CA 90404. The Buddha Walks into a Bar workshop will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. Tickets are for the public, and for Shambahla members, students and seniors.
