IN BRIEF:

The U.S. is escalating its campaign against Iran with the stated goal of bringing "regime change" in Iran. 60 years ago, the U.S. and Britian imposed a worldwide embargo on Iranian oil becasue Iran's Mossadegh government, the first democratically elected government, nationalized Iran's oil. The U.S. then carried out a coup, imposing the Shah (king) back on the throne in Iran and for the next 25 years, the Shah served as an extremely brutal agent of the U.S., killing up to 100,000 Iranians and turning the country’s resources over to U.S. oil companies and banks.

This past week the European Union announced a complete embargo of Iranian oil. Additional economic sanctions have already been imposed by the U.S. and its allies against Iran. Taken together, this campaign intends to impose maximum suffering on the people of Iran by destabilizing and destroying the country’s economy. The U.S. is already carrying out covert actions inside the country, including: assassinations, sabotage and drone flights over Iran, while U.S. military bases surround the country and nuclear-armed U.S. aircraft carriers and Trident submarines sit immediately off its coast.
