Prisoners in the Security Housing Unit (SHU) at Pelican Bay State Prison in northern California began an indefinite hunger strike on July 1st, 2011 to protest the inhumane conditions of their imprisonment. Since Wednesday, July 6th, inmates from 11 of California's 33 prisons are refusing meals in solidarity.
Come out and show your solidarity with the hunger strikers! More than a week will have passed since the hunger strike started & it is important that we support the energy & organizing on the inside as the strike continues to spread across California!
Bring signs/banners/megaphones/drums/guitars/boom-box/ noise makers, etc.

Prisoner's Demands Are as Follows:
1. End Group Punishment & Administrative Abuse
2. Abolish the Debriefing Policy, and Modify Active/Inactive Gang Status Criteria
3. Comply with the US Commission on Safety and Abuse in America?s Prisons 2006 Recommendations Regarding an End to Long-Term Solitary Confinement
4. Provide Adequate and Nutritious Food
5. Expand and Provide Constructive Programming and Privileges for Indefinite SHU Status Inmates.
