Rabbi Seidman will challenge us to examine the two faces to religion. One side is within us. It deals with our personal values and how we lead our lives. The other side drives for conformity and dominance in the world. The two aspects are in tension with each other. Today, this conflict is in the growth of religious movements which support diversity as well as those supporting dominance.
Rabbi Larry Seidman, Ph.D., aka the Rational Rabbi, brings a unique perspective to the role of a religious leader. He is both an ordained rabbi, and the holder of a Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley. He believes that the practices of Judaism, and the understanding of God?s role in the world, can guide and enhance all our lives. The rabbi believes that Judaism is fully compatible with science and rational thinking. Science and religion are not enemies; rather, with proper understanding, they are fully compatible.
Rabbi Seidman has served as a rabbi from coast to coast. He frequently officiates at Jewish and Interfaith services and has taught about spirituality and rational views of religion from California to Kathmandu. He is well known in Orange County for his column titled God, Religion and You. It appears every Sunday in the local section of the Orange County Register:
