DESCRIPTION:
Mike Alewitz, the most prolific labor muralist in America, will be at the Southern California Library for Social Studies and Research (SCL) on July 19, at 2 P.M., to sign copies of his new book "Insurgent Images: The Agitprop Murals of Mike Alewitz," by Paul Buhle with Mike Alewitz, foreword by Martin Sheen. Alewitz will talk about art and politics, based on his decades of activism in the peace and social justice movements. SCL is located at 6120 S. Vermont Avenue (between Slauson and Gage) in Los Angeles. Alewitz painted a 23x48 foot mural on SCL’s garden wall, “Labor Solidarity Has No Borders,” in 1990.

This special summer reception will also feature a raffle for a signed Robbie Conal poster and SCL items for sale, as well as refreshments served in SCL’s patio and garden. Everyone is invited, and it is free and open to the public.
