SB 1070 – the reactionary Arizona law that targets immigrants with no papers and essentially legalizes racial profiling – takes effect on July 29. Sheriff Joe Arpaio has already announced that on July 30, he will sweep through immigrant neighborhoods in and around Phoenix to enforce the law. What happens in Arizona and whether people around the country take up the struggle to oppose the reactionary targeting of immigrants that is being whipped up all over the country will have reverberations nationally and beyond.

A spirit of resistance must spread throughout the country – people of all nationalities need to wear and show buttons, t-shirts, posters, stickers with the slogans: “We are all Illegals! We don’t gotta show no stinkin’ papers! We don’t have an immigration problem, we have a capitalism problem! No more troops! Demilitarize the border!

We need to change the whole dynamic, defy this whole direction and set new terms: “The days when this system can just keep on doing what it does to people, here and around the world...when people are not inspired and organized to stand up against these outrages and to build up strength to put an end to this madness...those days must be GONE. And they CAN be.”

On July 29th, thousands of people must travel to Arizona to stand with the people there, saying “We Are All Illegals! We Don’t Gotta Show No Stinkin’ Papers!”

Everyone everywhere must take up the battle against SB 1070 and the system’s fascist attacks on immigrants. This whole fascist offensive MUST be challenged, resisted and ultimately stopped. The challenge has been made; the people must answer it.
