Karl Rove, former top advisor to George W.... Bush…
* Lied about US torture. Rove claims publicly that the US government never relied on torture, even though (a) Craig Murray, former ambassador to Uzbekistan, admitted that the CIA used techniques like raping people with broken bottles, torturing children to coerce parents into signing confessions, and boiling people alive[1], and (b) official torture memos were released establishing that children were tortured with insects, among a host of other torture techniques.[2] Rove also claims that sleep deprivation[3] and water boarding are not torture[4].
* Criminally conspired to invade Iraq. Advised republican candidates to focus on the war[5] and chaired the White House Iraq Group to develop strategies for publicizing the White House’s assertion that Hussein posed a threat to the US[6]. Former White House counterterrorism director Richard Clarke later wrote that the Iraq “crisis was manufactured, and Bush political advisor Karl Rove was telling Republicans to ‘run on the war.’”[7]When friends of Rove’s asked whether Bush planned to invade Iraq in 2002, Rove was known to reply, “Let me put it this way: If you want to see Baghdad, you’d better visit soon.”[8]
* Subverted rule of law. Used “executive privilege” to refuse to comply with over a dozen Congressional subpoenas related to improper firing of Federal attorneys, illegally pressuring EPA, torture, election violations, etc.[9] * Held secret meetings with terrorist supporters. Rove and Bush met secretly with Abdurahman Almoudi in 1999. US intelligence knew since 1994 that Alamoudi had deep ties to terrorist organizations. [10] When asked publicly (twice, by citizens) why he had been meeting secretly with Alamoudi , Rove refused to answer and walked away.[11]
* Used state power to protect private corporations. Was a paid consultant to tobacco giant Philip Morris from 1991 to 1996, and continued his relationship with Philip Morris while he was an advisor to then-Texas Governor George W. Bush. Helped draft a 1996 push poll against then-Texas Attorney General Dan Morales in an attempt to pressure Morales out of filing a lawsuit against the major American Tobacco corporations. The push poll was financed by tobacco companies.[12]
* Did we mention he’s a liar? Attempted to discredit report of Joseph Wilson that Iraq was not seeking yellow cake uranium in Niger. Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald claimed that “Rove lied to investigators and the prosecutor eight out of the nine times he was questioned about the leak and also tried to cover-up his role in disseminating Plame Wilson\'s CIA status.” [13]
* Relied on disinformation and dirty politics to subvert democratic will of the people. A colleague and friend of Rove’s at the University of Texas at Austin admits that “Rove is both student and master of plausible deniability.” That Rove has “improved on Macchiavelli,” “operated without constraint,” “camouflaged his breaking of the law,” and hid “under the cover of journalists.” [14]
* Opposes the right of gays to marry, based on a claim that we should respect the tradition of marriage. [15] Last year he filed for a divorce.[16] It was his second divorce.[17] [1] http://rawstory.com/2009/2009/11/ambassador-cia-people-tortured/ [2] http://rawstory.com/08/news/2009/04/17/bush-torture-memos-align-with-account-that-911-suspects-children-were-tortured/ [3] http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200904170031 [4] http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124226863721018193.html [5] http://thinkprogress.org/2007/03/26/roves-powerpoint/ [6] http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/03/05/cia.leak.probe/ [7] http://www.president-bush.com/bombiraq.html [8] http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,356034,00.html [9] http://warcriminalswatch.org/index.php/news/40-recent-news/230-7-1-09-10-most-wanted-war-criminals [10] http://www.historycommons.org/entity.jsp?entity=abdurahman_alamoudi [11] {{PGEgaHJlZj0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy55b3V0dWJlLmNvbS93YXRjaD92PTFfNTFYc3BoSGk0I3Q9MG0yMHMiPmh0dHA6Ly93d3cueW91dHViZS5jb20vd2F0Y2g/dj0xXzUxWHNwaEhpNCN0PTBtMjBzPC9hPg==}} [12] {{PGEgaHJlZj0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy5zb3VyY2V3YXRjaC5vcmcvaW5kZXgucGhwP3RpdGxlPUthcmxfUm92ZSNJbnZvbHZlbWVudF93aXRoX3RoZV9Ub2JhY2NvX0luZHVzdHJ5Ij5odHRwOi8vd3d3LnNvdXJjZXdhdGNoLm9yZy9pbmRleC5waHA/dGl0bGU9S2FybF9Sb3ZlI0ludm9sdmVtZW50X3dpdGhfdGhlX1RvYmFjY29fSW5kdXN0cnk8L2E+}} [13] http://www.truthout.org/article/grand-jury-hears-evidence-against-rove [14] http://www.infowars.com/articles/us/rove_save_first_amendment_from_rove.htm [15]http://thinkprogress.org/2008/02/12/high-schooler-spars-with-rove-over-gay-marriage/ [16] http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1209/31036.html [17] http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/oct/23/usa.comment
