DESCRIPTION:
Saturday, Sept. 19 in Griffith Park

Open that garage; dust off the old bike and get set for a family-friendly bicycle adventure through the 10th largest park in America: Griffith Park.

Urban Expeditions presents the Griffith Park n’ Ride on Saturday, September 19th. 10:00 am. The festivities will kick-off at the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round Park Center where we’ll meet the “Mayor of Griffith Park”, Louis Alvarado. Alvarado will speak about the park’s rich history and also tell us why Mayor Richard Riordan dubbed him the “Mayor of Griffith Park”. From here we’ll hop on the saddle and venture to Travel Town, at the northwest corner of the park. Steam engines, cabooses, passenger rail cars and old LA trolleys are free to climb, play and explore. Put your engineer cap on and call out all aboard for this fun interactive stop for all ages. Next, we will travel to LA’s Old Zoo. With a notorious past, the original location of the LA Zoo is considered one of the top abandoned sites in the U.S. And, it’s actually open to the public. Learn about its spooky past, its famous celebrity animals and get a feel for what it’s like to be a caged animal attraction from the inside perspective. Kids are sure to dig this jungle gym, and so will you. To end the event we will return to the Merry-Go-Round, and around we’ll go. Take a ride on this historic and kitschy attraction for 2 bucks-a-pop and enjoy socializing with the C.I.C.L.E. peeps during an informal BYOP (bring your own picnic!).

If you still are up for more, you can stay for Shakespeare in the Park happening from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. While not part of our tour, for those who love the old bard, you are sure to enjoy this after ride theatrical romp in the park. Located at Upper Old Zoo (near the bear caves) on Griffith Park Drive.

C.I.C.L.E.’s Urban Expeditions program is made possible with support from REI. Visit www.CICLE.org or call 323.478.0060 for more information.
