RALLY TO URGE SEN. BOB DUTTON TO END THE BUDGET IMPASSE

With only a few weeks remaining before the State of California starts issuing IOUs, our local State Senator Bob Dutton is playing the obstructionist role. Join the Inland Valley Democratic Club in urging Sen. Dutton to end the budget impasse.

WHO: Inland Valley Democratic Club

WHERE: Office of Senator Bob Dutton, 8577 Haven Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga, CA

WHEN: Saturday, January 31, 2009, 12pm

“Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wednesday he will meet today with Democratic and Republican legislative leaders to restart budget negotiations, using his budget as a template to bridge the state's looming .5 billion deficit during the next 18 months…

"Now, with the state projected to run short of cash in a month, it's time to bring Republicans and Democrats back to the negotiating table, the governor said Wednesday…

"State Controller John Chiang warned state agencies last week that the state could begin issuing IOUs for some expenses, including income tax refunds, as early as Feb. 1…

"But Sen. Bob Dutton, R-Rancho Cucamonga (San Bernardino County), vice-chair of the Senate Budget Committee, said Republicans won't support the governor's budget proposal largely because of his tax measures - which include a temporary 1.5-cent increase in the sales tax, a tax on oil refined in California and a nickel-a-drink excise tax on alcohol.”--San Francisco Chronicle
