Recent studies suggest that climate change may be happening at an even quicker pace than previously thought?and the consequences are already proving devastating for the environment and for huge numbers of people across the globe. The effects of global warming include a decrease in biodiversity, melting glaciers, and more severe weather patterns. The world\'s poor will bear the brunt of the climate crisis by living within heavily polluted regions, areas with rising sea levels, along with food and water shortages.

The driving factor behind global warming is the system of modern capitalism, dominated by wealthy nations and companies that rely on the use of fossil fuels, and therefore have a stake in ensuring that environmental considerations don\'t cut into their profits or access to markets. Under capitalism, nature is converted into private property so that it can be sold for a profit. Because capitalism is based on competition between companies and nations, there is no global decision-making about the natural resources. Instead, there is a built-in incentive for companies to use them up as quickly as possible in order to maximize profits.

Can the environment be saved?

Join us for a discussion about an alternative system?a socialist one, where natural resources are planned and used for human need, not for profits.
