Greetings, There are a few events for May that are still in development (a speaking tour with Splitting the Sky, and a benefit for a Honduran Aids Awareness group) but on the schedule for this Friday's Film Night (May 2nd) is Afghanistan-Collateral Damages, a film about the Italian human rights group "Emergency" and their efforts to open a hospital in Kabul. More info about the movie here: http://www.karousel.org/ay1380/AY1380.htm
The following Friday, May 9th there will be a presentation by a local woman named Barbara talking about her experiences in Iraq just before the invasion. The Films Nights have turned into delicious potlucks and a great way to hang out with others. Here's what John sez:
"Peace People,
We need vigils and demonstrations and meetings . . . and we need a chance to gather together to enjoy eachother's company too. In that spirit we share great films and pot luck food and (best of all) great conversations and visiting with fellow peace workers in the great Northeast of Los Angeles. We gather around 7:30 and roll the film about 8. This gives folks a chance to demonstrate in Silver Lake or Glendale or to table at the Eagle Rock farmer's market and still join us. The address is 3706 N.Figueroa Ave. Phone (323)276-8350. http://www.florycanto.org/ Friday, May 2nd, we have a great opportunity to see a powerful film, Afghanistan, Collateral Damages? It was produced by an Italian group called Emergency. http://www.emergency.it/eng/index.html They focus on civilian victims of war worldwide.
The following Friday, May 9th we will see another very special presentation. A local woman named Barbara was in Iraq before this recent invasion and made a video about what she saw. This will be a chance to bring the issues to a very personal level. Barbara will be present to share her experience with us.
Peace, John"
So come on down! Hope to see you here. -Colectivo Flor y Canto
