Five years of war in Iraq has killed over 1 million Iraqis and nearly 4,000 U.S. soldiers at a cost of over billion each month. Iraq has been devastated by war and occupation to the point that it has created the largest refugee crisis in the world today. Despite the recent discussion of bringing the troops home from Iraq, the occupation has no end in site. The U.S. is establishing permanent military bases in the region along with an American Embassy in Baghdad that is the size of the Vatican.

While most Americans have rightfully become disgusted with the war in Iraq, this is not the United State's first or last unjust military venture into the Middle East. The supposed "liberation" of Afghanistan in reality means a country run by war lords with a resurgence of Taliban control. In addition, the U.S. presidential candidates have been making threats towards Iran and Pakistan; and they have not questioned the U.S. role in the continuing oppression of the Palestinian people or the ideology of the "war on terror."

Please join us for a discussion with members from Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and David Barsamian. Hear what effect the war and occupation has had on soldiers--and what role soldiers' opposition to the war has in ultimately ending the war. Barsamian will discuss the reasons the Middle East is vital to the U.S., as well as the tools the U.S. uses to sell their project to the American public.
