The Scion Route 07: Idependent Film Festival, in its third year of supporting the independent film community, kicks off this week with its first screening!

From September through December, 4 independent films are screened in 6 cities across the United States. The first screening, September 26 in Los Angeles, will be Mayor of The Sunset Strip, a film on Rodney Bingenheimer, whose greatest achievement was a generation of introducing the most influential artists in modern rock to America radio.

Mayor of the Sunset Strip is a documentary film studying the place of celebrity in current pop culture through the life of Los Angeles scene maker and KROQ radio DJ, Rodney Bingenheimer. The film explores a worldwide music scene from the late sixties to the present through the eyes of those who were there. A few of the celebrities who tell their stories of Rodney are: David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Neil Young, Coldplay, Gwen Steffani, Oasis, Courtney Love, and The Ramones. Directed by Emmy winning filmmaker George Hickenlooper (Hearts of Darkness; The Making of Apocalypse Now, Factory Girl) this is a story for anyone who is even a casual fan of musical pop culture.
