The face that launched a thousand ships, the hand that provided the forbidden fruit, the smile that captivated history, the girl who inspired a revolution: Helen, Eve, Mona Lisa, Joan of Arc-women of different eras, styles, roles and moments in history. The Feminine Mystique group show will explore the \\"images\\" of women as the subject matter of art. NoHo Gallery LA is proud to exhibit the Impressionist photographic works of featured artist Sia Aryai. FEMININE MYSTIQUE will also showcase the surrealist painter Ora Tamir along with the works of Sadegh Aref, Deborah Ash, Daniel DeBevoise, Freyda Miller and Fernando Ventura.

Sia Aryai

Born in Iran, Sia secretly sketched female figures as a child from smuggled foreign magazines. Emerging from a stringent background of Iranian influence, in which depictions of bathing-suit clad women were not customary, Sia freely portrays images of women to celebrate their beauty and mystique. Uniting \\"a Zen-like simplicity with just the right touch of romantic mystery,\\" Sia\\'s images speak to both local and international acclaim. As rumblings of an Islamic Revolution increased in the mid 70s, Sia fled the Ayatollah regime to England where he received his education. Later, he ventured to the United States and discovered his passion for photography.

As an international Art & Commercial Advertising photographer, Sia emphasizes sensual human forms, bodies within close proximities, and uncovered skin to transform print ads into art. Within L.A.\\'s creative artists\\' circle, Sia is regularly acknowledged as an artistic leader as he pioneers a romantic combination of images reminiscent of and inspired by the Renaissance, the Impressionist Movement and 40\\'s film noir. By integrating and expanding past notions, Sia\\'s photography is an artistic style for the new century.

One of Sia\\'s trademark techniques brings a singular feature of the subject area into a sharp focus while leaving the remainder in a \\"romantic glow.\\" Sia\\'s photography has been featured in The Pacific Design Center\\'s 101 New Blood show for two consecutive years. His photos have been exhibited at the P.L.A.N. show sponsored by the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art as well as overseas at the National Art Fair of Asia (Seoul, Korea). Sia is also credited with producing artistic product renderings for such major companies as Nike, Kraft and Adidas. His images have also appeared as key set decoration in several recent studio motion pictures, including \\"Laurel Canyon.\\"

\\"Sia Aryai\\'s artwork captures the sensual delicacy of the feminine mystique combined with a rough, course embellishment suggestive of Ancient Persia and modern day women, transcending time and place, in a subconscious space that attracts us all,\\" says NoHo Gallery LA Curator Daniel DeBevoise. \\"Ora Tamir’s paintings are bold 20th century Surrealist works,\\" adds gallery curator.”They are beautiful depictions of women but, upon closer examination, they have a fascinating story to tell.”

Ora Tamir

I was born in a Kibbutz, a settlement surrounded by the stark beauty of the Israeli desert. As a young girl I discovered the magic of colors, the flow of lines and the wonders of imagination. I loved to paint.

At school I did not get along with art teachers. I wanted to paint \\"my way\\". The Museum became my playground. I loved Leonardo da Vinci for beauty and Michelangelo for power. An extensive Van Gogh exhibition came to town. The immense passion that came through his brush strokes captured my heart. I discovered that feelings could be painted.

Traveling to New York, I visited the Metropolitan Museum where I saw Dali\\'s paintings for the first time. My eyes were opened to the world of Surrealism. That night I had a vivid dream. Waking up I sketched the image on paper and later painted it in oils. It was my first surreal painting. I found my calling. In New York I fell in love and got married. I returned with my husband to Israel where I became well known.

I love the desert, rocks, the beauty of the human body and science fiction. People and landscapes appear disguised in my paintings. I never went to art school; I learned by looking at the Masters. I learned by experimenting. I paint in solitude, no sound and no distractions. I have learned to listen to my inner voice. I don\\'t paint when this voice is silent. My art is painted from the heart. Never bending to trends or popularity.

We immigrated to California, raised a family and built a home. Years went by. Time came to exhibit again. My work debuted at the largest international Art Trade show in the United States\\' \\"Art Expo New York 2002.\\" As a result I received extensive press and representation by several Galleries. I have been a part of ArtExpo New York ever since. My painting \\"Passage\\" was featured on the cover of \\"Art Business News\\" The article named me as one of today\\'s \\"handful of modern-day surrealists.\\" It was heart warming to get that recognition. People find their own stories in my paintings. They tell me that my Art touches their soul. I am grateful for that.
