DESCRIPTION:
In the wake of the most recent episodes of police brutality, i invite one and all to a demonstration against the grand opening of a new multi-million dollar LA Regional Crime Lab at Cal State LA on Friday, MAY 11 at 2PM. the lab is located at the main entrance to the school (5151 State University Dr at Eastern Ave...just off both the 10 and the 710 freeways).

This lab will house facilities for the LAPD, Sheriff?s Dept. and FBI. We must think about why this facility is being built when and where it is. Cal State LA and Cal State Dominguez Hills are the two schools with the lowest incomes among student populations. Cal State LA has an on-campus police department, which employs the fascist tactic of infiltration on student organizations.

East Los Angeles is home to a vast population of working-class people with 43% of households living on less than ,000 a year. This, in an area where rent for a one bedroom apartment can top out at ,600 for a year. What does that leave necessities like food, bills, transportation and clothing, etc.?

Why now? Why the surge in criminalization? Why the need to appear tough on crime and hard on gangs? Why the rise in police patrols and helicopters in working-class communities? Let us not be blind either to the recent raids on immigrants. Law enforcement and military recruiters dominate on-campus job fairs. College tuition is goes up 10% while financial aid goes down. Working-class students are being priced out of higher education.

I encourage all of you to join me and on May 11 at 2PM to demonstrate against this facility and what it symbolizes. Bring your friends! Bring your signs! There are sure to be local and state ?dignitaries? in attendance. To find out more, search this email address in myspace: ragefan@collegeclub.com peace.
