Cheech Marin Presents

The Chicano Collection / La Colecci?n Chicana

Fine Art Prints by Modern Multiples

Pico House Gallery

El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument

424 N. Main St., Los Angeles, CA 90012

Reception: Saturday, March 24, 2007 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Continues through April 10, 2007

Digital reproductions (gicle?s) of paintings by 26 prominent Chicano artists depicting urban life and the Chicano experience between 1969 and 2001 are on view at Pico House of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument.

The prints are drawn primarily from actor and art collector Cheech Marin?s renowned collection and include works by Carlos Almaraz, Frank Romero, Patssi Valdez, George Yepes, Rupert Garc?a, Leo Lim?n, Margaret Garc?a and Eloy Torrez. Most of the 26 artists are from Los Angeles.

The exhibition also includes original linocut-print portraits of the featured artists by Artemio Rodriguez. It is part of a project spearheaded by Marin that created limited-edition portfolios of the prints with plans to donate them to 50 major U.S. art museums and universities. The project is designed to advance Chicano art as a recognized school of American art and increase public accessibility to this work in cities nationwide.

A 53-minute DVD documentary about the artists and the project accompanies the portfolios and the exhibition (it plays in the gallery on continuous loop).

The gallery is open 10 AM to 3 PM daily

Admission is free and it is open to the public
