DESCRIPTION:
Nominated for best documentary at the Pan African Film and Arts Festival, \"Masizakhe: Let Us Build Together\" was filmed in South Africa in January of 2006 and highlights the mood of South Africans ten years after the end of apartheid. The film weaves powerful intergenerational spoken word and music between the themes of poverty, segregation, racism, and the struggle to rebuild a nation that has been scarred by the effects of a system that regulated most of its people to the worst possible conditions. Despite the lack of resources in South Africa today, there is a huge amount of positive energy being put forth by the youth to create popular culture and a sense of self-worth so that future generations can eliminate the hardships they are now faced with.

Poets and artists include:

Ghetto Youth Uprising

Mustard Seeds

Ritangle

JBux

Sindiwe Magona

fokofpoliesikar

Kipchoge Kirkland

and many more.

The World Premier of this documentary is happening at the 2007 Pan African Film and Arts Festival with two screenings:

Monday, February 12 at 3:15 p.m.

Friday, February 16 at 1 p.m.

Director Scott Macklin will be at this event for Q&A.
