The Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a grassroots, worker-run farmworker organization from Southern Florida is hunger striking outside of Taco Bell headquarters (a major buyer of florida tomatoes). The CIW hopes to bring Taco Bell to the table to start a dialogue for a living wage and improved working conditions. Farmworkers from the region make 40-50 cents per 32-pound bucket of tomatoes (averaging 7,500 annual income), and have no benefits or job security. Come to the solidarity rally at UCI on Feb 25th for speakers and music (including hiphop group JG &Havikenhayes). There will be a mass demonstration in front of Taco Bell Headquarters (17901 Von Karman Ave., Irvine, CA) on Feb 28th between 11am and 5pm, including bands, speakers and theatre. Pickets and protests will be held between 11am-1pm and 4-6pm all week in front of Taco Bell HQ. Come out and show your support for the farmworkers in their struggle for justice!
