[WHEN/WHERE] Thursday, Oct. 5th, 10:00 AM at KIWA (3465 W. 8th St. LA, CA 90005)

[WHO] Special Guest Speakers: Bob Watada and Rosa Sakanishi, parents of Lt. Ehren Watada. (They are touring Southern California for their son?s case through Oct. 2nd-Oct. 16th. Lt.Ehren Watada cannot travel freely out of Fort Lewis, Wash., where he is currently stationed.)

Speakers:

*Chinese Community: Kay Key-ho Pih, PhD.(Assistant Professor in Department of Sociology, CSUN)

*Japanese Community: David Monkawa(Nikkei for Civil Rights & Redress Officers) NCRR is the major org. sponsoring the So.Calf.tour for Lt. Watada?s case.

*Korean Community: Younghui Kim, Philis Kim(Korean-Americans for Peace; KAP)

*Philippines Community: Chito (BAYAN USA)

*South Asian Community: Shiu-Ming Cheer (South Asian Network/Civil Rights Attorney)

[WHY] In June, U.S. Army First Lt. Ehren Watada became the first commissioned officer to publicly refuse deployment to the unlawful Iraq war and occupation. In September, he has been charged with contempt towards President Bush, conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentle man, and missing movement. For the first time since 1965, the military is prosecuting an object for his opinions. Now he is facing over eight years in prison-over six years for the First Amendment speech alone. (For more information about his case, please visit http://thankyoult.live.radicaldesigns.org/content/view/188/ )

The representatives from LA Asian communities will give the solidarity statement supporting Lt. Ehren Eatada?s courageous struggle against the illegal war on Iraq and demanding Fort Lewis to stop ?Court Martial ?against him.

Bob Watada and Rosa Sakanishi, parents of Lt. Ehren Watada, will also talk about their son?s upcoming military trial in Fort Lewis.

*Korean-American for Peace is hosting this news conference.
