About Community Services Unlimited

Community Services Unlimited (CSU) Inc. is a 501?3 non-profit set up in 1977 in South Central L.A. as the non-profit arm of the New Panther Vanguard Movement in Southern California. Over the years it has continued to provide tax-exempt services to various community- based organizations (CAPA, Police Watch, and the Community in Support of the Gang Truce). CSU also has several community-based, youth-centered programs, including ?From the Ground Up? and ?Growing Healthy?. The organization and community have grown 7 mini urban gardens, including front yard gardens, two schoolyard gardens, and a garden at an intergenerational community center. CSU Youth Trainees work in the gardens and with younger kids as part of gardening and nutrition programs. Plans include partnering with regional farmers and starting a community supported agriculture (CSA) program and other distribution methods to provide locally-grown fresh produce to local community members.

The Fundraiser

Funds raised from this event will send a CSU Youth Trainee or other staff person to present at the international, annual Planners Network conference this summer in Chicago. This will be an opportunity for CSU to connect

with planners, activists, and other community workers from around the world, and to share information

about CSU?s innovative programs. All proceeds from this event will go directly to CSU.

Any additional funds after conference costs will go to their programs.
