Robert Fisk

Middle East Correspondent for The Independent of London

will speak on \'The War for the Middle East: History Unlearned\'

WHEN: Monday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: UCLA Ackerman Grand Ballroom

WHAT: Award-winning veteran journalist, Robert Fisk, will talk about his new book, The Great War for Civilization: The Conquest of the Middle East.

Robert Fisk is the Middle East correspondent for The Independent of London. He has called Beirut home for almost thirty years and speaks Arabic fluently. The recipient of the Amnesty International UK Press Award, Fisk has won the British International Journalist of the Year award seven times.

Fisk, who speaks Arabic fluently, is one of the only reporters covering Iraq who still goes out of his hotel to report on the war, but even he says it\'s gotten so dangerous that he can only stay on the street for 10 minutes.

When former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri was assassinated in Beirut earlier this year, the explosion was only 400 feet from Fisk\'s Beirut home.

Fisk, a frequent guest on Pacifica\'s Democracy Now!, covered the Iranian Revolution, the Algerian and Lebanese civil wars, the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, the Iran-Iraq war, the first Gulf war, and now the ongoing occupation of Iraq by U.S. and Britain.

His books will be available for purchase and signing:

The Great War for Civilization: The Conquest of the Middle East (2005)

Pity The Nation: The Abduction of Lebanon (3rd ed. 2001)
