DESCRIPTION:
First LA Cop Watch Meeting 10/24

First meeting to begin planning for a Cop Watch in Los Angeles on Monday October 24 at 7pm at the YJC Center 253 W. Martin Luther King Blvd (cross street is Broadway off the 110 fwy) contact: Joaquin Cienfuegos at morph3030@yahoo.com

We want all people who are interested in planning and organizing in a proactive way to empower our communities to stop police brutality and murder.

This is a project of the STOP Coalition (Stop Terrorism and Oppression by Police) -- which includes the Youth Justice Coalition, the Southern California Anarchist Federation (LA), and other organizations and individuals. This project was initiated by SCAF-LA.

The meetings will be used to plan patrols, and plan trainings on organizing a cop watch in other communities -- our efforts are for particular communities to start organizing themselves and provide tools to help in that process.

What is a cop watch:

- community members, and supporters, patrol police when they're carrying out their business as usual (harrassing, and profiling)

- they observe with cameras, and/or legal observers

- take down police badge numbers and license plates

- take direct action to stop police brutality and police murder

- they help give resources to communities who are organizing to stop police brutality

- its a concrete way that a community can organize itself, and be proactive

- they eventually take their communities back from the police
