Join us as we march and rally in support of the hunger strike SHU prisoners at Pelican Bay organized July 1, 2001. The hunger strike is currently on hold pending negotiations with the California Department of Corrections. Help us build and LA base of support.
In the SHU prisoners are kept in windowless cells 23.5 hours a day. All meals are eaten in the cell. There are no congregate activities of any kind, no educational programs, no work, and no contact visits.
The UN Convention against torture state that: any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining.... information or a confession, punishing him for an act he ... has committed or is sus[ected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him.... when such pain or suffering is infliceted by or at the instigation of or with the consent of or acquiescence of a public official is torture.
