DESCRIPTION:
Professor Regina Freer, co-author of The Next Los Angeles: The Struggle for a Livable City, will read from the book and sign it as a featured event at a book sale on Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Southern California Library, 6120 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles. The two-day cultural event will also feature copies of The Cocaine Chronicles signed by co-editor Gary Phillips, thousands of used books for sale, music, art, and more. The book sale will offer political and cultural titles including pamphlets (50 cents) and thousands of books (most or ) on political theory, socialism, African-American studies, and more, many drawn from a huge private collection recently given to the Library. On Saturday, July 30, at 2 p.m., Regina Freer, associate professor of politics at Occidental College, will discuss The Next Los Angeles, which combines history, analysis, strategy, and a platform for building a just and livable city. She will also sign the book, which will be available for sale. The schedule on Sunday, July 31, will feature music and art. Free ice cream and other refreshments will also be offered.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Library, a social justice people's library located in South Los Angeles.
