The Post Carbon Institute and Los Angeles Post Carbon Present Options and Actions in a Post Carbon Los Angeles Sunday, April 10th, 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Space is limited, so please RSVP to insure a seat: Eric Einem, 714-926-1916, eric@peakoilaction.org. Suggested Donation: (or for the 7:00 panel) The Post Carbon Institute will present a screening of The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream as well as a panel of speakers who will discuss the serious issues we will be facing in Los Angeles with the coming global decline in fossil fuel extraction and present local projects which represent a step towards sustainability. This event will also feature local poets and musicians and vegan (vegetarian) food. Event Schedule 4:00 PM Film, The END of SUBURBIA: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream. Followed by a short discussion 5:30 PM Political and Environmental Poetry and Music Vegetarian/vegan food will be provided 7:00 PM Panel of speakers, featuring Richard B. Anderson and representatives from local organizations. The panel will be followed by a discussion. Within our lifetimes were going to see the end of the age of oil, and the result of that will be the end of the American way of life" - Richard Heinberg - in an excerpt from The END of SUBURBIA www.endofsuburbia.com ?Permanently increasing oil prices and, at some point, the inability to obtain fossil fuels at any price will make much of our urban landscape more or less untenable. Politics and the economy will become more locally-organized, and some localities will adapt better than others? - Richard B. Anderson, www.forthefuture.org Richard Bruce Anderson, Ph. D. is the founder and Senior Fellow at For The Future (www.forthefuture.org). Dr. Anderson is the originator of the Consumerism Project at For The Future. He is the author of Waking Up from the American Dream: How to Live a Happy, Satisfying Life in Our Unhealthy Consumer Culture. As a speaker and writer, Dr. Anderson has pursued an active role in the voluntary simplicity movement. Since 1998 he has been a member of the board of directors of Seeds of Simplicity, a national organization that organizes conferences, conducts workshops, and distributes a national newsletter on voluntary simplicity. Our industrial society is approaching the end of the oil age, and is completely unprepared for the consequences. Our aim is to educate the community on the issue of oil depletion and the coming peak in global oil production, take action in our community to prepare for the post-carbon age and have fun along the way.
