LOS ANGELES ? Comedian D.L. Hughley joins the Planned Parenthood Los Angeles County Advocacy Project (PPAP), and National Poetry Slam Champion Sekou (tha misfit) for "Slam the Vote,"? a night of comedy, poetry, art and politics on September 8 at the Village at Ed Gould Plaza located at 1125 N. McCadden Place in Los Angeles. The event starts at 7p.m.
D.L. Hughley promises to deliver his hysterical, politically incorrect humor at "Slam the Vote" as he has done in ?The Original Kings of Comedy?, ABC?s ?The Hughleys? and regular appearances on ?The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,? ?Late Night with Conan O?Brien,? and ?Politically Incorrect? and ?Real Time? with Bill Maher.
Sekou (tha misfit), featured on Russell Simmons HBO?s ?Def Poetry,? and friends will also perform their award winning lyrical stylings. Sekou has been showcased on BET?s ?The Way We Do It? and is the former host of MTV?s ?Battlegrounds.?
The Cartoonist Group will also be on hand displaying their unique brand of thought-provoking political cartoons. Prints will be for sale.
"Slam the Vote" is produced by PPAP and the Planned Parenthood Young Professionals (PPYP) support group, who work to build awareness of reproductive rights issues among young people ages 21-35 and spark political action by providing pro-choice information and encouraging voter participation in the 2004 election.
