This Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
Why: Make no mistake about it, these truckers (a good deal of whom are refugees from the Reagan-era Central American counterinsurgencies) are not the entrepreneurs that the term "independent contractor" or "owner operator" makes them seem to be. After lease payments, insurance, maintenance (made to the companies they "contract" with), and fuel, there isn't much left. Their status makes it impossible for them to form a union, hence no benefits or rights. To paraphrase Ernie Nevarez, who's been organizing with the truckers for over a decade, the truckers are modern day slaves. It's time to start turning the tide of 30 years of Labor defeats. It's victory or serfdom from here on out! end
