The Three R's of 2004 - Our Leap of Faith Year
REPEAL the USA PATRIOT act. RESCIND the tax cuts for the super rich. REMOVE Bush.
Americans, especially Greens, have a singular duty this year to reset U.S. democracy. The USA PATRIOT act must be repealed because it threatens the civil liberties of every one of us. The rich must be taxed at the same level as the rest of us and military spending needs to be cut so that housing, education, and health care can be provided to all of our families. Of course, Bush and his gang need to be removed before they do any more damage. It is going to take years, if not decades, to fix everything.
Philip Koebel is running for Congress in California's 29th District to help make the three R's happen. His opponent, an otherwise o.k. Democrat, co-authored the USA PATRIOT act and is calling for extending it, and he voted to support Bush's wars.
Philip Koebel is an affordable housing activist and a youth advocate. He has a degree in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is about to graduate from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. He worked for ten years as an Energy Efficiency economist and helped to save enough energy to provide power to more than 100,000 homes for several years. He worked in the County's welfare department serving refugees and immigrants. He has mentored youth and families for the past ten years. He is a member of the National Lawyers Guild, which launched its campaign to repeal the Patriot Act in 2002 at its Pasadena convention.
Mr. Koebel is currently preparing his campaign, which will begin on Tuesday, August 24th. The next 70 days will be a truly grassroots effort, including door-to-door work advocating for local issues like protections for renters and more local funding for public schools. The 29th district includes Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, Glendale, Griffith Park, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, and Temple City.
