** Brazil's General Strike: 40 Million Stop Work, Shut Down Business

------------------------------------------------------------

Jefferson Azevedo, Brazilian Marxist, L.A. resident, and long-time member of Workers World will speak on the historic general strike that spread throughout Brazil and shook the right-wing Temer regime. Dozens of leftist parties, unions, organizations of landless and homeless workers and students shut down banks, highways, and factories.

Temer came to power through an illegal impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff and has pushed through a neo-liberal program of austerity and broad attacks on workers and poor people.

The impeachment of former president Rousseff was welcomed by Washington. Rousseff was a member of the Workers Party. She had been a guerilla in the armed movement that fought against the brutal military government that ruled over Brazil for more than two decades. She had been arrested, tortured and jailed before joining the Workers Party and later winning the presidential election. Join us for this important report and open discussion afterwards!

Please join the organizations at the Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice who will be participating in this most important act of solidarity with political prisoners living under inhumane conditions in Israeli prisons. These courageous fighters for justice are foregoing food to bring attention to the crimes against humanity by Israel. Today, while some so-called progressives are abandoning justice when it comes to Palestinian liberation and basic human and civil rights, it is vital that we come out to strengthen solidarity and highlight Israeli human rights violations.

* Support 1,500 Palestinian Political Prisoners in

* Israeli Prisons on Hunger Strike
