I received a call from Sherman @ 8:00 PM. The Bureau of Prisons transferred
him to a temporary holding facility in Oklahoma City. You can go to
http://www.bop.gov/ for listings. I plan on calling tomorrow to find out
details. Sherman said that he going to be transferred to Tucson Arizona--a
medium security prison. There is one federal facility in Tucson. This is
unacceptable. I have an attorney who is willing to handle the case, but we need donations to cover the fee. We want him moved to Lompoc
I hope it's not too
much to ask for you to continue to call, send, e-mail, and fax letters to
the following people urging them to transfer him to a facility in Southern
or Central California. Feel free to modify the original letter. I'm too
exhausted to write another one. I'll post the Feinstein letter this weekend.
Best, JMR

Dear Sir:
I'm contacting you regarding the case of a federal prisoner,
Mr Sherman Austin, booking number 0309300141 and Federal ID#
51565-054.
It is my understanding that he is being transferred to a
medium security federal prison in Arizona. I wish to register
my protest at this action.
Mr. Austin is a nonviolent prisoner with no prior criminal
history. Mr. Austin and his family reside in California. Is it
not highly unusual to transfer a prisoner under such circumstances
as these out of state, to a medium security facility? This will
impose great hardships on both Mr. Austin and his family. I urge
you to reconsider, and instead send Mr. Austin to the federal
facility at Lompoc, which I understand would be the normal
course of action in such a case.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
etc.
