Israeli troops have killed nine Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip amid a surge in violence in the coastal territory.
Israeli troops have killed nine Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip amid a surge in violence in the coastal territory.
In the past three days, 21 Palestinians have been killed in fighting in Gaza and two dozen have been wounded.
The latest fighter killed was from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a wing of Abbas's Fatah movement. His car was struck by a missile in an Israeli air strike, emergency workers said.
A local commander of the group who was in the car was critically wounded and two passersby were also hurt.
Four Hamas fighters were killed when a house they were hiding in was hit by a series of Israeli missiles, security sources said. A fifth later died of his wounds. Three others were killed in separate raids.
The Israeli military confirmed it had carried out the attacks.
Deployment
A column of Israeli tanks backed by attack helicopters moved into an area east of the town of Jabalya, outside Gaza City, overnight in part of what Israel has dubbed operation "Rain Man".
Witnesses said that about two dozen tanks moved into the areas of Beit Lahiya and the industrial zone of Beit Hanoun, two northern Gaza towns, after darkness fell on Saturday. A military spokeswoman said the deployment was part of an operation to halt rocket fire at Israel.
Abu Ubaida, a spokesman for Hamas's military wing, issued a statement vowing "we will bombard and strike everywhere" in response to Israel's attacks in Gaza.
He said: "Our reaction will be strong."
Israeli media reported that Amir Peretz, the defence minister, had instructed the military to prevent rocket attacks from Gaza on towns in southern Israel.
Deepening division
The recent fighting comes amid deepening divisions among Palestinians, with forces from Hamas, which controls the Palestinian government, clashing with rivals loyal to Fatah.

Israel killed three more Palestinians on Friday, October13 , bringing to thirteen the number of Palestinians killed in 24 hours since the Israeli troops pressed their bloody incursion into southern Gaza a day earlier.
Three members of Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, were killed when their car was hit by an Israeli missile in the town of Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, said a local medical source and witnesses, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Another five Palestinians were wounded in the Israeli strike, the source added.
Friday's death come a few hours after a29 -year-old woman was shot dead before dawn by Israeli soldiers in the Abassan area of the southern Gaza Strip, local medics said.
Another Palestinian died overnight from wounds suffered during an Israeli air strike in the same area on Thursday targeting a house belonging to a Hamas member.
Their deaths brought to ten the number of Palestinians, including three children and at least six people from the same family, killed by the Israeli military since troops mounted an incursion in southern Gaza early Thursday.
The Israeli army has said its operation is being launched "against tunnels and other terror threats".
A military spokesman said troops opened fire on two gunmen approaching Israeli forces in southern Gaza. "I can confirm that one of them is dead," he said.
But when questioned about the death of a woman, the spokesman said only that the army had "heard such claims" and was "checking".
Israeli troops also launched two air strikes overnight against a house of a Hamas member.
Two Palestinian girls were killed and eight people wounded in the Israeli raids, said local medics.
Witnesses said Ashraf Sirwana, a senior Ezzeddine al-Qassam member, escaped unscathed.
More than 270 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched a wide-scale offensive in Gaza on the pretext of seeking the release of a soldier captured by Palestinian groups to swap with Palestinian women and children in Israeli jails.
UN special envoy for human rights, John Dugard, has accused Israel of unleashing "collective punishment" against the Palestinian in Gaza.
Friday's latest deaths bring to5 , 427the number of people killed since the September 2000 outbreak of the Palestinian uprising, most of them Palestinians, according to an AFP count.
Palestinian State
The bloody Israeli offensive in Gaza followed on the heels of Hamas politburo leader Khaled Meshaal's call for the setting up of a Palestinian state on the lands captured by Israel in 1967 .
"I ask Arab and Palestinian leaders to hold a summit to ask for a Palestinian state to be built," Meshaal told Palestinian leaders during a meeting in the Syrian capital Damascus on Thursday.
"This state will be built on (the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel in1967 ) and will include al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem)," he added.
"We can do it. Israel will not be able to scupper this project," said Meshaal who lives in Syria.
The Hamas supreme earlier accused Israel of refusing to free Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of a captured soldier.
"The idea is to free (Israeli soldier Gilad) Shalit and that Israel would then release detainees in a political context," Khaled Meshaal said in an interview with the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper.
Meshaal said Hamas wants the release of1 ,000 detainees including women and children and that Israel had "refused the principle of a exchange."
He also accused Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of "hindering the agreement."

And jews of the warsaw ghetto tossed molotov cocktails at the foreign invadors who were destroying thier lives and lifes. Is it any wonder that Palestinians (a tiny fraction of a percent so far) would fight back against Zionist invadors destroying Palestinian lives and lifes???

Most Palestinians in Gaza originate from foreign invaders who infiltrated the strip last century. Since the Israeli evacuation from Gaza was completed in August last year the Palestinians have fired daily barrages on Israeli territory resulting in the Israeli military activity you're raving against. The Palis are the bad guys in this story, lover boy. To compare the Warsaw ghetto revolt with the self inflicted Palestinian plight in Gaza only reinforces and reaffirms your wickedness and evil racism. We've got no doubt you'd love for the security barrier around Gaza and the security arrangements at the crossings to be torn down so that the Palis could flood in to Israel and massacre Israelis to your heart's content.
Israel is fighting back against Palestinian aggression.

How many Palestinians have to be murdered by Zionists before Zionists qualify as murderous thieves IN YOUR EYES???
Like jews of the warsaw ghetto, palestinians ( a tiny percent, anyway, something like .000038% of palestinians) are RESPONDING to the offenses of foriegn invadors with violence.
Point is, if ZIonists would end thier bloodsoaked crusade, get out of ALL of palestine and NEVER torment the Palestinians again, then palestinians would have no VALID reason to attack ZIonist crusaders. Until that day, reap what you sow. Duh.

How many Israelis have to murdered by Palestinians before Palestinians qualify as murderous thieves IN YOUR EYES, lover boy??????
The Israeli Jews are RESPONDING to a big and vicious minority of Gazan Palestinians committing aggressive offenses against them (daily mortar and rocket barrages plus incessant attempts to dispatch homicide bombers to Israel proper, some of which succeeded to your delight no doubt) and supported by the majority of Palestinians -- all going on since the day AFTER Israel removed all Jewish presence from Gaza in Aug last year.
If the Palestinians cease their bloodsoaked murderous crusade, turn their backs on violence and adopt peaceful co-existence as the way to go, then the Israelis would have no justified reason to mount reprisals against jihad-waging Palestinian genocide practitioners. Until that day arrives and you stop sticking up for genocide, jihad and aggression, your scabrous Nazoid racism and apology for aggression will continue to be rubbed in your face.
by this analogy?

So , lets say ,the Lakota left Pine Ridge and started raping, murdering and pillaging (and there's real good argument that they'd be justified), would you give them back the plains states? How many whites would they need to kill before you'd give in to their demands? And what message would that send about violence in our society?

"even at the same time stole 4 times as much land in the west bank."
4 times the square footage of Gaza? Four times the square footage of the Gush Katif area of Gaza? And in what time period? The year since disengagement?
This is wrong. Show a source for this statement. Olmerts party platform for election involved dismantling west bank 'settlements". I've seen no evidence of new settlements, much less new settlements encompassing 4 times the land of Gaza.
If you intend to lie, we intend to call you on it. Open publishing at its best.

This propaganda-mill-of-one weasel has told me there's no reason he should cite any sources because all the information could be found through search engines nowadays.
If the Naziboy makes up his own fact so liberally about the distant past, it's not a big stretch for him to make up some facts concerning recent affairs.

I've read that West Bank (Judea and Samaria)Jewish settlements comprise only 2% of the land. In your experience, is that true?

The Jewish residential areas may comprise overall more than 2% of Judea-Samaria, but there's no question to me that the vast majority of this land mass is uninhabitated by Jews.
Recently DM Amir Peretz has declared the impending removal of the illegal outposts whose uprooting he reportedly had ordered before Hizbullah committed its latest breach of Israeli sovereignty in July.

4 times as much land they denied Palestinians in Gaza access to. And that would include the buffer zones surrounding the portions of Gaza that the Zionist's civilian occupation forces claimed as thier own property.
Just 3 weeks ago, Zionists decided to steal west bank lands for another 690 housing units. Zionists didn't end thier murderous theft of Palestinian lands in 1948. that is when they started thier multi generational offenses.
Olmerts party platform called for...? But actions speek a little bit louder that words, don't they???
"settlements" where Zionist crusaders claim land as thier own personal property may be quit a small percentage of west bank lands, BUT there is much more west bank lands that Zionists occupy with soldiers.
Oscar schindler occupied/claimed a Polish factory and a very nice Polish home, which he got from nazi generals with a bribe. And the meaningless pieces of paper Zionist generals give to Zionist occupiers of Palestinian lands is just as valid as those pieces of paper Nazi generals gave Schindler. And nobody would say Nazis were not murderous thieves of Polish lands that the Nazi generals didn't give to Nazi civilian occupation forces, like we hear about ZIonists.
2%??? Oh, but that is ONLY the lands ZIonists generals say the Zionist civilian occupation forces can claim as thier own propert. And they got a nice pretty piece of paper saying the land is the ZIonist civilians. So, obviously (not) Zionists are ONLY occupying 2%. And nazi civilian occupation forces feasting off the mysery of the vanquished Poles was also a very small percentage of Nazi occupied Polish land.
What is obvious is that you like to use deceptive arguments. 2% , Olmerts party platform says...
Oh well, at least it is only the decidedly brainwashed who would buy into your vacant deceptive rant. Anyone who hasn't considered the reality should be expected NOT to accept lies into thier hearts.
