UNT leader Stalin Perez Borges speaking in California
By U.S. Hands Off Venezuela Tuesday, 05 July 2005
The U.S. Hands Off Venezuela Campaign, San Francisco Labor Council, and Open World Conference have invited Stalin Perez Borges of the Venezuelan UNT (National Union of Workers) for a series of meetings in California between September 22 and October 2, 2005.
CONFIRMED EVENT: Stalin Perez Borges will be speaking at ILWU Local 34 hall, 4 Berry St., SF, on Sunday Sept. 25th at 3 pm.
ILWU Local 34 Hall is located next door to SBC Park. Use the "N" line of Muni toward SBC Park. For more information about the event call 415-864-3537.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The UNT was founded in August 2003 as the response of democratic trade unionists in Venezuela to the fact that the unelected and illegitimate leadership of the CTV had supported and participated in the military coup in April 2002 and the bosses' lockout in December 2002. The UNT has now become the main trade union organization in Venezuela and is actively participating in the struggle for workers' control and co-management which it has already achieved in state-owned companies like Alcasa and Cadafe and recently nationalized ones like Venepal and CNV.
Stalin Perez Borges is one of the national coordinators of the UNT. He comes from the UTIPC (Union de Trabajadores de la Industria Procesadora del Cigarrillo) [Union of Workers of the Cigarette Processing Industry], the union at the big Filtrona cigarette filter factory in Valencia. He has been a long time union leader in Valencia was a member of Fetracarabobo [Federation of Workers of the state of Carabobo], and is a founding member of the UNT. With decades of experience in the trade union movement, Borges became one ofthe main trade union leaders in the industrial state of Carabobo. He played a key role in the struggle against the coup in April 2002, and the bosses' lock out of December 2002.
These meetings are aimed at promoting a wide ranging discussion about the situation facing the labor movement as well as other important developments in Venezuela. Trade unionists and human rights activists in this country need to know the truth in order to effectively defend the struggle for trade union freedoms and justice in Venezuela.
We invite all Hands Off Venezuela supporters in California, across the United States and around the world to support this important initiative. We hope Stalin Perez Borges' visit to California will be the first in a series of exchanges between Venezuelan and U.S. trade unionists. To make this visit possible, we are launching a fund raising drive to cover the many expenses we will incur. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Letters of support for Stalin Pérez Borges' visit are also appreciated and can be sent to contact@ushov.org.
The SF Bay HOV committee will be holding a series of local meetings and fundraisers in preparation for this important visit. More details on these meetings and events featuring Stalin Perez Borges will be made available regularly on this site. Please contact the US HOV campaign for more information.

The guy should really lose his first name, unless he is proud of it - which would make me a little uneasy. He'd get invited to more places if he called himself S. Perez Borges. Or maybe change his first name to Salvador or something.
by come on now...

Gee, by that token everybody named Adolph should change their name, along with all the Christophers (Columbus being responsible for one of the largest genocides ever), the Ronald's, etc.
Give it a break, this is 2005, not 1965, nor 55, nor 45. Most of your clothing is now made by Wal-Mart loving pseudo-commies in China, anyways.

Names like Christopher and even Adolf are old names that have been attached to people who led positive lives as well as to robbers and murderers. Stalin was a made-up name that means "Man of Steel." It was used as a pen name by the Georgian bandit and possible Czarist police agent who later became the dictator of the USSR. In that capacity he was responsible for the deaths of millions of people. Anyone named after him should change his name unless he actually wants to be identified with the murderer.

I guess you should tell these 82 people to change their name too then - right ?

If they were indeed named after the Soviet dictator, I would say it would be a good idea to change their first names; it will probably save them and their children a lot of grief in life. And if they expect to be taken seriously as political figures, they absolutly should change the name.

I don't even know how many there are world-wide
but from the names I see here it looks like it's a more common name in other parts of the world since most of those names are not western...
I bet you didn't think there were even this many !
It's a good idea to read less books and do more datamining before posting, however if you do TOO much datamining you'll get a nasty return like THIS

U.S. Search indicates that in the United States there are 2 Adolf Hitlers, 1 Adolph Hitler, 1 Adalf Hitler, 1Adlof Hitler, 2 Adolpho Hitlers and 1 Alfred E. Hitler, who perhaps is something like Alfred E. Newman. The various fellows with the first name of Stalin probably faced nothing like the problems these fellows have faced, although some might be Nazis who legally changed their name to A.Hitler. And there are probably others who didn't make it on to the database for one reason or another.

yeah - I'm one of those person's you won't find even if you knew my name - I've always hated nosey businesses, I started warning people about datamining years ago, I was one of the first people to sound the alert about web bugs too.
Spyware has become a big problem lately, I warned it would, big business has become big brother - ditto
I got streaming he-aac working (gives FM quality sound on dialup - same as the satellite radio services use)
it was picky about the soundcard so I installed another one to get it to work..
here's a screen shot of the streaming encoder streaming the station and a player playing it
(the bitrate appearing to be 128.kbps is a bug in the MP4 plug-in the player uses, the real bitrate is showing in the encoder - 24.kbps)
I can't stream multicast just yet because there's no he-aac player available - the best I can do is the quicktime player but it doesn't play he-aac, just standard aac..
It's sending the stream to an icecast server on another box and the player is playing it off it - so it's ready to deploy as a replacement for MP3 streaming - it gives MUCH better sound then MP3 does...
various internet stations should switch to this, I'm now an "elite" streamer - there's very few stations that offer HE-AAC, some offer MP3PRO but this is better..
