The UFW and Peace Bakersfield protested against Vice President Dick Cheney's arrival in Bakersfield, proving that Kern is not all-conservative.
Thanks to two decades of Reaganomics, poverty's increased, people are more economically divided than in years. Class politics is back, and it's only a matter of time before Democrats co-opt it. It's back, it's brown, and in some ways, like Michael Moore, it's a little socially conservative. What this can mean is tough times for the socially liberal, fiscally conservative Dems, who will have less influence.
If it happens, the progressives are going to have to shift gears from being the loyal opposition to the corporatist DLC, and become the loyal opposition to the Catholic Church.
Did you hear Edwards speech last night?
Looks like you are right about it coming back as an issue.....
I'm glad to see that protest and social consciousness is alive in Bakersfield. I lived there for four years (Feb. 1986-Dec.1989) and remember it well. It actually made my former home of 14 years (conservative Cincinnati) look progressive in comparison. I do remember, though, when Vice Presidential candidate Dan Quayle arrived to speak near the AMTRAK station in 1988 there was a pretty large group of people (including me) there to boo him. But frankly, my favorite activity in Bakersfield was going to that same AMTRAK station and taking the train for a weekend in Berkeley.

What utter rubbish, and simply false.
Remember which side WANTS class warfare.
