Comcast creating a digital apartheid

by l. campeon Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 3:38 AM

Comcast HSInternet is warning and terminating users that use their connections past a hidden bandwidth throughput limit. No numbers are given to help people reduce their habbits stating these are confidential.

A flowchart of the racist policy to possibly ban a race from comcast Hi-Speed-Internet:

a) Comcast monitors all bandwidth consumption with or w/o user's knowledge/consent.

b) Users segregated into "banned", "suspended", "succesfully converted", "current 99%", "next top 1%" bins using data from a).

c) Cherry Hill (NT HQ) send warning letters out based on b)

d) Extortion works, user comforms to a "face-less slug", update b)

e) Extortion does not work 1st time, (ie 2nd letter)

..... i) Suspend service so they get a taste of no-connection status

..... ii) Re-affirm threats, re-connect service eventually

f) If user conforms, go to d)

g) User doesn't conform, ban for year. update b)

h) Loop a) through to g) until further notice.

No major media has given adequate (or any) coverage of this story.

Most users would leave CHSI in a heart-beat but they hold a monopoly in Broadband HSI in most parts.

Comcast refuses to state the "limit" of their "unlimited use" service.

All this, while they upkeep their 24/7 marketing-blitz "now 2x the speed", etc.

....Drive to shed some light on the issue.

Why it is racial.

by L. Campeon. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 4:43 AM

This makes more sense with the following definition:

Race - A group, class or kind of people with certain peculiarities in common.

I don't think people would aprove of an all-you-can-eat place banning only fat people.

It's "racial"...

by ;lkkjh Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 11:29 AM

...because that's the common, knee-jerk response when something happens that libbies/annies don't like.

It doesn't matter one bit that the issue is not at all race-related; the race card is thrown and it's supposed to trump everything else...including logic and reason.

"Fascist" is used in much the same way...with no regard to the actual meaning.

They're just "scary words" that the l/a's think will win them arguments.

I am down with this

by Slick Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 12:31 PM

A new race, which did not even exist 15 years ago: highspeed internet users.

I have a dream, that there will come a day, when people are not judged by their kilibyte per second rate, but by the content of their cookies files!

This is how intellectually the left has become -- internet users are a "race".

I suppose surfers are a race too.

Digital races for the virtual world

by L. Campeon Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at 1:44 PM

I agree the traditional meaning of race is black/white/latino/etc.

Unfortunately I think that for now it is a minority of people that have the technological-know-how to make real use of broadband access. Comcast is making a killing from the casual browsers paying $50 for a conection they don't know how to use to its real potential.

Imagine where the left would be now, if Chomsky had gotten banned from the libraries in the early years because he used too many books and had no alternative source to obtain books.

At least comcast should say how many books is the max, ie. what the limit already imposed is.

BTW, this has been going on since about August 2003, around the time the "2x the speed" marketing campaign kicked off, ask yourself if you noticed any of it in the media.

Unlimited until you reach the limit I guess.

The Left would be a lot smarter if Chomsky's America-hating stupidity had never seen the light of day.

Freedom to all...

Non-arch, while i'm not left, right, anarch or nonarch, i don't want to ignore you just because you have the *disruptive* label attached to your self.

So let's put it this way

...if *Right-wing Luminary* had gotten banned from the libraries in the early years because he used too many books and had no alternative source to obtain books."

The Right would be a lot smarter if *Right-wing Luminary*'s America-hating stupidity had never seen the light of day.

Or fill in non-arch for "right", etc.
