Venice Boardwalk new ordinances NEED your feedback too !
Venice artists
2011-09-24 8:21 PM LA City Parks Dept had a meeting to draft or discuss a new ordinance about changing the crass commercial junk being sold on Venice Beach. But who could find out where or when the meeting was held ? Could it be intentional that the outreach was limited or non existent even to those who WANTED to attend, to comment, to question their tax-paid decision-makers? (text/plain)
23 de septiembre--Día de acción
Rockero
2011-09-24 5:17 PM

(image/jpeg)

SB 48 Referendum: THE Epic Struggle for Queer Rights in California
Mark Gabrish Conlan/Zenger's Newsmagazine
2011-08-27 7:04 PM
Roland Palencia, executive director of the Queer lobbying group Equality California (EQCA), calls the radical Right's attempt to get rid of the FAIR Education Act, also known as SB 48, "the greatest threat in years to LGBT [Queer] Californians." The Act adds Queer people, people with disabilities and Pacific Islanders to the list of communities whose "role and contributions" to American and Californian history and society must be acknowledged in lessons and textbooks used by the California public schools. Radical-Right activists, including some of the same people who successfully eliminated marriage equality in California via Proposition 8, plan to make it a referendum on the very existence and legitimacy of the Queer community and will likely wage an ugly campaign based on many negative stereotypes of Queer people. Palencia's group is fighting back by setting up a broad, mostly non-Queer coalition, and he, EQCA regional field director George Zander and openly Queer San Diego Unified School District board member Kevin Beiser spoke at the predominantly Queer San Diego Democratic Club August 25 to mobilize its members to join the campaign and help organize the grand coalition. Police killing of Kelly Thomas rattles Fullerton
Amber Stephens
2011-08-26 3:47 PM Thomas was a 37-year-old schizophrenic homeless man who died in a hospital after a violent July 5 run-in with Fullerton police next to the Fullerton Transportation Center.
Police officers confronted Thomas after a call about an individual breaking into cars in downtown Fullerton. According to witness accounts, six officers used force against Thomas resulting in what appears to be a brutal beating at the hands of law enforcement.
Thomas was taken off life support five days after the encounter. According to his family, Thomas battled with schizophrenia and he voluntarily drifted the streets of Fullerton and nearby cities. In the weeks following his tragic death, a community unites for justice. (text/html)

Public Comment Needed on SNWA Snake Valley Pipeline to Vegas!
Stop Water Theft by Developers!
2011-08-18 7:26 PM Another chance for members of the public to comment to the BLM and share their views on the proposed SNWA pipeline from Snake and Spring Valley aquifers to the Las Vegas region. Please request the BLM take the NO ACTION alternative and deny the pipeline access across public lands held by the BLM. We do not need any more aquifers being overdrafted for extra golf courses and suburban sprawl development (ie., Coyote Springs from Harvey Whittemore), we need flowing springs and seeps for our ecosystems!

Venice Boardwalk ordinance draft looks like it's going to fail it's duties
Venice Artist
2011-08-18 6:58 PM Venice Boardwalk has been a big loss to the City- how it is seen by Los Angeles' tourist crowds, and to LA's own image as an artistic or art-supportive environment. Commercial vending of cheap re-sale-mdse. bought at any local wholesaler while using City sidewalk free spaces ruins any art scene. City Council doing a draft that looks bad so far. Fullerton Police Chief, D.A. Cover Up Kelly Thomas Death from Police Beating
Witness Suppressed by D.A.
2011-07-31 4:19 PM The death of homeless man Kelly Thomas at the hands of Fullerton police following a severe beating remains "uncertain", according to the Orange County coroner. When a human is beaten into a coma by a gang of cops and then dies only a few days later in the hospital, we can only "guess" at what happened (DUH!). However, it appears that the Orange County D.A. investigator Stan Berry is close friends with Fullerton police Chief Sellers, this could explain the "uncertainty" coming from the OC coroner and the D.A's failure to contact eyewitnesses present when Kelly Thomas was beaten by Fullerton police.
