Thousands of Angelinos took to the streets to demand an end to violence against women in Los Angeles. on March 8th.
The march started at the Los Angeles City Hall. It paused in front of the Los Angeles Police Headquarters for the reading of the names of women who had died at the hands of police. Demonstrators pointed out that women's rights are human rights. Some of the groups' spokespersons expressed anger over the recent fall of women's rights and said that they would not stop marching and demonstrating until equality was achieved.
Domestic violence was a major theme of the day and women demanded that the police join them in fighting domestic violence instead of being part of the problem.
In contrast to the strong activism and unity among women in Los Angeles, there was shock over the perception that women's rights had been seriously undermined just to the south in Orange County.. The day before, Women for Orange County had sponsored the Great American Write-In in Santa Ana in spite of protests from local parents claiming that Women for Orange County had invited pedophiles to table their event. The response of Women for Orange County was that they could not discriminate against staffers based on background. The protestors said this was nonsense as other groups encouraging attendance from women and children had been able to ban pedophiles from tabling. More information is available at

There were events in Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura Counties on March 8th as well.
