Nineteen-year-old Jack Ariamehr toils daily as a "sign spinner" on the street corners of New York. But under the gaze of the State of Liberty, he dreams of bigger things -- and who wouldn't?
No one is more aware of this than Jack's teacher, Bobby Blue Day -- an ex-Hollywood screenwriter now teaching an evening class in New York, who shows up at Jack's apartment early one morning eager to talk about Jack's screenplay.
To Bobby's astonishment, street kid J.F.K. Ariamehr has written the best script he's ever read. And it soon becomes clear that Bobby will do anything to get a piece of this last chance at the American Dream.
A plan takes shape. Jack knows from class that the best contact Bobby has is Steven Worthy – a legendary Hollywood mogul who Bobby has hung with – in fact, was once compadres with – and can still get to.
And Bobby can take Jack’s screenplay straight to Steven Worthy. Or not.
For a price. That’s called a negotiation.
But not unlike the moral of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, a film which Bobby references often to his ruthless student, the blockbuster gold that has passed into their grasp threatens to elude them, as lives are lost and dreams are broken over a thing as simple as a stack of pages with three holes.
