In the 1930 allegedly Winnie Ruth Judd murdered two woman at the home on 2929 N 2nd Street in Phoenix, Arizona, sliced and diced their bodies into small pieces and shipped them to Los Angeles on the train in several suitcases.
The bodies in were discovered in Los Angeles when a train employee noticed the suitcase were leaking blood.
It was the trial of the Century and covered by radios and newspapers across the land.
Winnie was sentence to death, but in a 2nd trial she was declared insane and instead locked up in the Arizona State Nut House on 24th Street and Van Buren.
I went by the home where the murders occured and shot these two photos.
A home numbered 2929 N 2nd Street no longer exists.
According to one article on the internet the address was changed to 2947 N 2nd Street. One of the photos is of that home.
The 2nd photo is of the home at 2927 N 2nd Street. It looks like it could have been built in the late 1920's
Many people say Winnie Ruth Judd got railroaded for a crime she did not commit.
After being locked up in the Arizona nut house she frequently escaped. The headlines on the Arizona Republic usually read "WInne Ruth Judd escapes - Again"
On her last escape she moved to the Bay Area and worked for a wealthy family in the East Bay for many years before she was recaptured.
After being recapatured she spent about a year in the Arizona State Prison system. When she was finally released she went back to the Bay Area and worked for the same family she worked.
