Los Angeles, as you probably don't know, is one of the hotbeds of anti-file-sharing activity, because so many big entertainment companies are located here. The money donated by Hollywood has been motivating the US Government to promote the interests of the Copyright Cartel. The US set up a post in New Zealand to lobby to reduce freedom of speech over there.
The Copyright Cartel is slang for the organizations and companies that try (and succeed) at reducing our rights to copy files. They include the MPA, RIAA, and companies like Warners, Disney, Universal and most other big media companies.
Their goal in New Zealand was to get legislators there to pass a law that would force ISPs to terminate access for anyone found to be sharing files illegally. That was a huge restriction on free speech, because it would also shut off email and other access. To achieve this, they set up an office in New Zealand and tried to pass laws favorable to the cartel.
That office was funded by the US government.
Our government has a lot of "talk" about freedom of speech, but when it comes to protecting it, they go abroad to destroy the free speech of others!
As freedom of speech is destroyed, by America, in other countries, it's only a matter of time before the same thing will happen here. Already, we have many restrictions, but clearly it's not restrictive enough for some lobbyists.
It's time for a little active resistance - fire up Bittorrent and share files. Go to onebigtorrent.org and get some videos and films there.
