If there is the best way to illustrate the lop-sided Philippines-United Stares relations is about, it can be shown when latest US missile destroyers will join ageing Philippine warships for naval exercises this week in a timely show of unity as tensions with China escalate over a maritime dispute. While US has modern missile ships it has given WWII vintage ships like all the war materials hands me down to its puppet state. And the bad thing is that the Philippines has to buy it not at a bargain price but a cut throat cost. For 11 days of the RP-US exercises start on Tuesday off the southwest Philippine island of Palawan in the Sulu Sea, close to the disputed waters of the West Philippine Sea where Manila has complained of increasing Chinese provocation. Officially the training is an annual event not linked to the territorial row, but it nevertheless offers the Philippines comfort shortly after appealing to its long-time ally and former colonial power for help in containing China.

Filipinos should not depend on the US for its own defense of the Kalayaan Island Group- AJLPP

Los Angeles--If there is the best way to illustrate the lop-sided Philippines-United Stares relations is about, it can be shown when latest US missile destroyers will join ageing Philippine warships for naval exercises this week in a timely show of unity as tensions with China escalate over a maritime dispute.

1951 Mutual Defense Treaty not Mutual

The Alliance Philippines (AJLPP) laughed at US assurance about helping the Philippines in case of a crisis between China and the later,

“ The US abandoned the Philippines during World War II and just came to re-occupy it in 1945 on the insistence of General Douglas Macarthur who knows the Filipinos hold promises as a word of honor. The US let the Japanese occupy and brutalized the Philippines for three long years.

In 1968, during the Malaysian-Philippines row over Sabah, the US sided with the United Kingdom and let Malaysian and UK jets refuel in Clark Air Base in an apparent snub of the Philippine claim to the consternation of pro-US puppets. Why will then will we ake their word to support our nation in time of crisis?

To add insult to injury they refused to recognized Filipino World War II veterans and their survivors for the last 65 years and counting. They even denied the claims of 27,000 veterans here in the US and the Philippines who filed for lumpsum and never gave anything for their widows and survivors.

It is only is Filipinos who can defend and fight for our sovereignty and honor, We must never rely on the Americans who just gave us two old US Coast Guard destroyers that is not even enough to patrol the disputed Kalayaan island group.” The AJLPP added.

The media report said US will send 800 sailors and two guided missile destroyers, plus a diving and salvage ship, to the 17th staging of the naval exercises, the US military said in a press release. The Philippine will mobilize around 1,000 marines and naval sailors for the exercises. (AFP, June 26, 2011)
