The Orange County Public Guardian has a mission: get as many conservatorships as possible to fund county operations. Seniors are being ordered to go to competency hearings to find out whether they get to keep their property or whether the county can manage it and rack up the fees.
Seniors can't even let their relatives help them out unless the relatives rack up tens of thousands of dollars fighting a greedy Public Guardian who places the interests of his checkbook over the interests of the seniors whose property he wants to seize.
Families and seniors must go into debt to fight of the extreme measures the Public Guardian is using to pay off the expenses of his office.
Some seniors are calling for community action to stop this theft of their life-long earnings.
