Libros Revolucion faces eviction

Urgent Call to Stop the Eviction of

Libros Revolución /

Revolution Books!

Yesterday, in the midst of a major battle to spread the word throughout society about the message and call, The Revolution We Need. . .The Leadership We Have, Libros Revolución / Revolution Books received a 3-day eviction notice from the landlord - to pay $8,100 by this Thursday, August 20, or be evicted!

Call, fax or email the bookstore landlord (California Broadway Trade Center, Shahram Afshani, landlord/owner at 213-614-0191, 213-614-0533 fax, shahram@cabtc.us) to tell him to stop the eviction and give the bookstore more time to come up with the rent. Also, ask that he lower the $2600/month rent for a store with no bathroom or air conditioning, in a run- down building - and give restitution to the bookstore for numerous fires in the past year, causing flood damage, disrupting store functioning and posing continued threat of fire and water damage from the sprinkler system. Call or email to let us know you did this and what he is telling you.

Check out these blogs covering the fires:

We are calling on people to come to the aid of the bookstore today! Donations are urgently needed to pay the rent and outstanding balance. Come down with cash or checks made out to Libros Revolución, call us to make donations online, or send to 312 W. 8th St., LA, CA 90014; and very importantly, become a regular monthly sustainer and approach others to do the same, so the bookstore comes out of this with a greatly expanded financial and support base.

Come to the bookstore to help phonebank 24-7 and do outreach and fundraising. Bring together others to take up fundraising projects, like used books sales on campuses, garage sales, bake sales. Let us know suggestions, ideas and other ways you can contribute.

This 3-day eviction notice appeared out of the blue - we have been at this location for 21 years and have always paid the rent - when we have been late, we have caught up and paid it. (Copies of the notice are available at the bookstore or in PDF version.) The eviction notice also shows that we have owed more in the past and no notice has been given... so we find it curious that we received this 3-day notice now, just a month into the campaign around this statement, and as the bookstore has been very actively spreading the word throughout society about the urgent need for revolution, the leadership of Bob Avakian, Chairman of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA and the challenge for people to step forward to be part of initiating a new stage of revolution here and around the world. It is no exaggeration to say that what is at stake in this campaign and in the battle to keep the doors of Libros Revolución open and expanding its influence, is the emancipation of humanity!

This bookstore, like no other in the whole southwestern U.S., is about people themselves engaging the full range of Bob Avakian's works, and the exposure of this capitalist system, the vision of the kind of world that is possible and the ferment in the pages of Revolution newspaper every week. Through a broad selection of books and bilingual programs and events, Libros Revolución is about people engaging in the realm of ideas in science, art, literature, philosophy and all realms of society to understand, explore and radically change the world. And the bookstore is about changing the atmosphere and promoting resistance on the basis of revolution.

Twice Evicted, get the message yet?

Evicted from the SF Anarchist Bookfair, now from the entire city of LA? One by one, your party falls, one by one you all grow weaker, and the party will soon shrivel up and die the maoist death it deserves -- everyone will forget about you, because you are irrelevant.
