The Filipino American community held prayer meetings and memorial masses for President Cory Aquino on August 4 and 6 in Los Angeles. On Thursday, August 6, the memorial mass was held at the St.Columban Filipino Church in Historic Filipinotwn Los Angeles. It was led by the Echo Park Community Coalition. Veterans of the anti-martial law movement in the United States and in the Philippines were present at the mass. Fr, john Brannnigan, a friend of the Aquino family and Fr, Frisco Entines, a veteran rights advocate officiated the mass. The solemn mass songs in Filipino was sung by the Parish Generation Choir.

FILIPINO -AMERICANS HOLDS MEMORIAL MASSES/PRAYERS FOR PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT CORY AQUINO IN LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles-- The Filipino American community held prayer meetings and memorial masses for President Cory Aquino on August 4 and 6 in Los Angeles.

On Thursday, August 6, the memorial mass was held at the St.Columban Filipino Church in Historic Filipinotwn Los Angeles. It was led by the Echo Park Community Coalition. Veterans of the anti-martial law movement in the United States and in the Philippines were present at the mass.

Fr, john Brannnigan, a friend of the Aquino family and Fr, Frisco Entines, a veteran rights advocate officiated the mass. The solemn mass songs in Filipino was sung by the Parish Generation Choir.

The prayer meeting was held on Wednesday, August 5 at the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center (HPMC) where 1/3 of the medical personell are Filipinos. Vice Consul Daniel Espiritu of the Philippine Consulate attended and spoke at the meeting . The Filipino flag at the hospital place were lowered at half-mast.

The Filipino flag in FACLA Cultural Center along Temple St. was also lowered at half mast and different adult day care centers covered their centers with yellow ribbon. Another memorial mass was held in San Francisco and New York.

Another memorial mass was be held in the evening of Aug. 5. at St. Basil Church, Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, 90010 led by the Philippine Consulate to be officiated by Bishop Oscar Solis at 6:00PM More than 3,000 Filipinos attended the concelebrated mass.
