Kait Leonard is a Los Angeles teacher who is on her 10th day of a hunger strike that is being waged in response to severe school budget cuts that will certainly result in excessive overcrowding in the classroom. The hunger strikers are taking the stance that these staff cuts are being foisted upon the shoulders of the poorer Black and Latino communities in Los Angeles and thus it is not a battle for labor concerns but rather a civil rights issue.
Ms. Leonard has taught a full schedule of classes during her protest.
