Reporter looking for Families Torn Apart by Immigration Law

by anarcentric Friday, Jun. 06, 2008 at 2:44 PM

The following was passed on to me by the folks at Immigration Detention Watch Network in regards to a request by a reporter who is interested in making a documentary on families who have been negatively affected by U.S. Immigration laws.

Request from Reporter; please reply directly to him. From: JGo10@aol.com

I am interested in producing a 21 minute documentary style program on the subject of families torn apart by US immigration laws. I have read and heard many examples of people who have been impacted in a variety of ways regarding laws that make it very difficult to remain in the US once the government discovers they do not have the appropriate documentation to remain in the US. Often times this may have to do with people who have came to the US as a young child, have lived here into adulthood, may not even speak the language of their native country and are forced to leave. Or parents of American children who are faced with deportation. You and I both know the stories are endless...and so I would like to find one that is really compelling.

This story will be for the global news network Al Jazeera English. I have done many documentaries in the past two years for this network...and I can assure you...they are offering the public a look that few other news organizations are doing. About a year and half ago I followed a family from southern Mexico on their journey north to find work in the US. The family in this story did this because they too wanted people to see that they are just hard working people doing what they felt was necessary to provide for their family. The story does not takes sides...the main intent of the story was to show an aspect of immigration not normally seen. I would expect to do the same with this subject. AJE does not air in the US and I would be more than willing to assure anonymity to anyone involved in the story. After the story on the Mexican family aired...there was no fall out whatsoever.

Don't hesitate to contact me should you have any other questions or concerns. Also I have included a link to my web site that will provide you will additional information on who I am.

Thank you,
