Generally, everyone except the Republican Party and landlords oppose Prop 98. JUNE 3 IS A LOW VOTER TURNOUT ELECTION BECAUSE THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY WAS IN FEBRUARY. That means the Republican Party and landlords will be a significant part of the voting population. As of April 4, 2008, the Republican Party is 32% of the registered voters in California or 5.2 million voters, and EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN VOTES IN EVERY SINGLE ELECTION. In a high voter turnout election such as the presidential election of November 2004, 13 million people voted. We will be lucky to have 11 million people vote in this election in a state of 27 million adults. We are counting on San Francisco and Los Angeles to tip the scales in favor of tenants with EVERY SINGLE PRO-RENT CONTROL VOTER voting on June 3 and voting No on 98/Yes on 99.

You can register at the County Registrar on May 19, and vote right there on an absentee ballot. Please also sign up for a Permanent Absentee ballot so you can vote in the comfort of your home, never forget to vote and never have to worry about voting on a Tuesday. If you have not received your absentee ballot and you have requested it, call your Registrar of Voters or GO THERE IMMEDIATELY and vote absentee right there. You should also have received your 2 voting booklets: The County booklet with your polling place on the back cover and your California booklet with the information on Props. 98 and 99. In San Francisco, voters have received two excellent mailers to Vote No on 98 from the California League of Conservation Voters and the Eviction Defense Collaborative. Thank you to these angels!

If you are 17 but will be 18 on or before June 3, you can register on May 19 and then wait until June 3 to vote. On June 3, you must be at least 18 years old, a US Citizen and registered to vote on or before May 19, 2008 to vote on June 3, 2008. If you became a US citizen after May 19 but before May 27, you may register and vote at the Registrar (Department of Elections) office by May 27 with proof of citizenship. You can register to vote so long as you are not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction. If convicted of a felony, you must be pardoned in order to vote. The homeless may vote; they just need to put a street corner (e.g. Market and Van Ness Streets) as the street address to be assigned a precinct, and then a mailing address, such as a PO Box, on their voter registration form. THE WORKINGCLASS OF CALIFORNIA IS COUNTING ON EVERY SINGLE PRO-RENT CONTROL VOTER TO SAVE OUR HOMES by voting No on 98/Yes on 99.
