It's High Time to Re-Regulate Banking

by Wolfgang Kaden Wednesday, Mar. 26, 2008 at 9:20 AM
mbatko@lycos.com

The shocking and reckless practices of banks behind the recent plunge in global markets illustrates how far they have veered from reality. Stricter supervision is necessary, and the banks' perverse bonus systems must be revamped.

Government of whom, by whom, and for whom?

by retired monk Wednesday, Mar. 26, 2008 at 2:34 PM

The banking system was highly regulated after its collapse in 1929. That regulation has steadily been dismantled beginning with Pres. Reagan.

The Bear Stearns bail-out was originally supposed to cost $35 billion. Now it's $350 billion.

We can't afford to replace ageing bridges, medical care for kids living below the poverty line, etc...but there isn't even a blink when it comes to bailing out speculating banks and their speculating super-rich clientele.

Government of whom, by whom, and for whom?
