Wednesday of next week March 19, 2008 will mark year five of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq. Another milestone also seems to be fast approaching: 4,000 US military killed in action. Ironically it now seems likely that the five year mark and the 4,000 dead total could come on the same day.

The documented Iraqi civilian deaths resulting directly from the invasion now stands near 82,000. This is only the confirmed deaths the actual number is estimated to be well over 100,000 and some surveys put the number at close to a quarter million.
