EPCC and JFAV Marks 66th Pearl Harbor Day in Los Angeles
Los Angeles-- The Echo Park Community Coalition (EPCC) based in Los Angeles Chair Arturo P. Garcia and the Justice For Filipino Veterans (JFAV) leader Faustino Baclig vehemently condemn the US Congress most especially the Republican party for opposing the veterans equity bills that resulted for its no-passage this year.
“This is the most blatant form of racism and discrimination. For more than sixty-one years the veterans continued to be treated as second-class American veterans. They continued to be denied the rights and the privileges that should be accorded to them as American World War II veterans” Garcia exclaimed.
The EPCC and JFAV equally blamed the Democratic Party most specially Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California for lackluster performance and not giving the equity bills its much needed support to pass the lower house.
Garcia further said, “The Veterans equity bills suffered the same fate as the Armenian genocide resolution that was stalled in the US Congress. “ The Armenian Resolution that has many initial supporters was abandoned by the democrats due to the intense pressure from the reactionary Turkish authorities. Again, Bush and the republicans and the reactionaries among the democrats won the day for Turkey. “
Broken Promises
JFAV leader and World War II veteran Faustino Baclig remembered that Congressman Filner promised to pass the equity bill by June and then on November 2007.” There is nothing more left but to resort to more militant actions in the years ahead. “ Baclig reported.
EPCC’s Arturo P.Garcia announced that JFAV and EPCC held a press conference and a remembrance of the 66th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II on Saturday, December 8, 2008 at FASGI around 9:00 in the morning.
